CHRIS KIONKE - WEDNESDAY EVENINGS 10PM UK TIME ON KICK106.CO.UK

Born and bred in the Rhine-Main area surrounding Frankfurt/ Germany, DJ and producer Christian (or Chris) Kionke was infected with electronic music before he could even walk properly, when his dad introduced him to Kraftwerk at a very early age. The infection soon took over his being and after years of partying throughout the 1990s to the sounds of legendary Frankfurt-based DJs like Sven Väth, Mark Spoon, DJ Dag or Pascal FEOS, he eventually started DJing for himself at a local club back in 1997- heavily influenced by the so-called "Sound of Frankfurt" in all of its facettes!
The city of Frankfurt is- and has always been- one of two major epicentres for electronic dance music in Germany along with Berlin, and CK soaked up the tuneage like a sponge...
His musical repertoire at this stage took in House, Trance, HipHop and Soul, but his taste pretty soon leaned towards the powerful wave of music originating from his homeland:

“I soon fell in love with the more ‘minimal’ approach to dance music,” says Chris “especially when I discovered DJs and producers like Chris Liebing, Johannes Heil, Anthony Rother from Germany or Adam Beyer from Sweden, among countless others!"

Chris is a versatile DJ who can push music across the board keeping it fun, versatile, groovy and gritty through out. This can be varied from chunky jackin house right through the numerous forms and shapes techno makes from minimal to tribal, from slow to beefy material!
Never shy about being open-minded to simply anything as a listener as well as a DJ, Chris honed his craft on the decks, using turntables and CDJs along with FX devices to spice up his sets:
“It’s VERY important to remain open-minded about what you’re doing, so when I’m behind the decks it’s never going to be ‘just House’ or ‘just Electro’ or ‘just Techno’. More often than not it will be a mixture of styles that might include Acid, Breakbeats, House, Techno, Minimal, Chicago, Detroit, Electro, you name it. It depends on the party and the audience at that moment, but almost every time it turns out to be something good to remember. The key lies in connecting with the crowd and seeing how far you can go together!”

Since the introduction of digital DJ devices such as Serato Scratch or Chris`weapon of choice "Traktor DJ Studio", his sets have even become more eclectic and irresistible, creating mayhem on the dancefloor whenever being unleashed- and 13 years of experience have led to quite a few residencies and unforgettable moments in Germanys nightspots over the years, playing to audiences ranging from 50 up to 4000 people!

Chris is currently touring all over Germany and has lately caught some attention within the inner circle of Frankfurts music scene, so his story is finally about to come full circle now...
DJ sets with icons like Tom Wax, Peter Latino, Bill Youngman, Ziel 100, TokTok and George Perry can be found in his agenda, in locations and on events like "Ebene 3" , Vinylbar", "Tanzhaus West", "Burning Vinyl" , "Diamond Voices" or (scheduled for 2010) one of germanys best and most famous clubs, the legendary U 60311 in Frankfurt! Plus, having established a circle of friends and colleagues all over the UK hasnt hurt his case either, so a few gigs outside of Germany are currently being planned also for 2010.

Furthermore, Chris can be heard on the radio every week, hosting two shows on underground stations "Kick 106" and "Twisted Energy"-
bringing you the flavour and showing off his taste and musical turn-ons of the moment!
And then, there are his own productions (created with some fellow musicians and producers from his area) waiting to be heard soon.....
The journey is far from over.
Fasten you seatbelts and get ready for the ride, this up-and-coming talent still has some aces up his sleeves!

Id just like to say THANK YOU for the ongoing love and support that I continue to experience on these very pages and the station in general....

The kick family is indeed exactly this to me, some kind of extended family-
and I dont wanna miss the banter and the great music and the genuine atmosphere everytime I pop in here- whether as a listener only, an active chatter or as the host and DJ in my show :)

So, thank you ladies and gentlemen. May the journey continue and the station soar to new heights in the future!

Lets do it!
